The 2007 Rotary Institute will be held at the Hilton Long Beach, 11-14 October. Over 500 Rotarians and guests have registered to attend this extraordinary Rotary event held annually for past, current and future Rotary Officers in Zones 23/24. One of 17 such Institutes held around the world of Rotary this fall, this year's "The Power of One" -themed Institute has as its goal to highlight the power of one individual Rotarian to effect change. To do something! Whether it be in one’s club, in one’s community or in the world.

The Institute will feature speakers from Rotary and beyond including RIP Wilf Wilkinson, TRF Chair Bob Scott, PRIP Cliff Dochterman, renown ethicist Michael Josephson, author-lecturer John Corcoran – noted for being "the teacher who couldn't read." The 2007 Institute will be preceded by GETS and GNATS leadership training programs for all 23 DGEs and DGNs and their Rotary partners from throughout Zones 23/24.

John Kenny Nominated for Rotary International President 2009-10
John Kenny, of the Rotary Club of Grangemouth, Central, Scotland, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International in 2009-10. He will become the president-nominee on December 1 if there are no challenging candidates.

A Rotarian since 1970, Kenny served Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland as president and vice president. He has served RI as director, executive committee chair, Rotary Foundation trustee, institute moderator, district governor, convention vice chair and group leader, president's representative, and committee member and chair. Kenny is a past dean of his local law faculty, a judge, and a notary. He is active in scouting and earned the Medal of Merit for helping form new scout groups in Eastern Europe.

John Blount Nominee for Zones 23/24 RI Director 2009-2011
John Blount, of the Rotary Club of Sebastopol, California, USA, is the selection of the Zone 23 Nominating Committee for Director of Rotary International from Zones 23/24 during 2009-2011. He will become the RID-Nominee on December 1 if there are no challenging candidates.

John joined Rotary at age 27, was president of the Sebastopol Club at age 32, and was the youngest Governor of District 5130 at age 40. For the past 20 years he has been training leaders in business, Rotary clubs, and Rotary International, as well as designing training programs in Zone 23-24, and Far West PETS. He is a dentist in private practice but has a background as a musical performer, motivational speaker, and writer and producer of training videos and multi-media presentations, especially those that focus on Rotary and what it accomplishes.

Clean Water (CWIP) Phase-Out Announced
With the creation of the new Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG), this is an opportune time to consider the viability of CWIP (Clean Water Initiative Project). Over a period of six years, CWIP has fulfilled a need for clubs and districts. The leaders of CWIP have determined that the time to change course has arrived, particularly with the formation of WASRAG. When asked, sponsor offers will be referred to the WASRAG group with our best wishes.
